Peggy Millar started drawing when she was 6 years old, and taught herself to copy images from Walt Disney cartoon characters. Later, in her teens, she had progressed to sketching candid portraits of people and doing studied drawings of complex objects. In her early twenties she studied Photography and art history in Montreals’, Dawson collage, (1969). During this time, she began to experiment with abstract art and delved into her fascination with texture and color.
She always found inspiration in nature and sought a spiritual calm there.
Finally in 1990 she attended the University of Alberta to work on her fine arts degree. She studied painting, sculpture and photography.
Her love of nature blossomed when she returned to the east and settled in the Annapolis Valley in Nova Scotia. Back in eastern Canada, her eyes took in the stunning detail of the landscape, the ocean and the ever changing beaches. Peggy photographed thousands of images and with those images she further probed them and nurtured them, to create the artwork you see here. Her aim is to share her vision of the natural world nudging the magic she sees there.
“To be with nature one must see the spirit living there” Peggy Millar
